Likumprojektā turklāt paredzēts Padomju okupācijas upuru piemiņas memoriāla kompleksam noteikt nacionālo interešu objekta statusu. Saskaņā ar Teritorijas attīstības plānošanas likumā ietverto regulējumu nacionālo interešu objekti ir teritorijas un objekti, kas nepieciešami būtisku sabiedrības interešu nodrošināšanai, kā arī dabas resursu aizsardzībai un ilgtspējīgai izmantošanai.
