Sirds un asinsvadu slimību ārstēšana Latvijā, neskatoties uz bēdīgo veselības budžetu, ir vairāk vai mazāk sakārtota, skaidra, un pēdējo zinātnisko un medicīnas prakses sasniegumu rezultātā invazīvās kardioloģijas plašā ieviešanā ir sasniegti tiešām labi rezultāti, turpretim onkoloģisko slimnieku ārstēšanā šādas sistēmas nav, skaidrības nav. Cilvēks, kad saslimst vai kad ir aizdomas par šo saslimšanu, paliek viens ar savām bailēm, neticību, ka viņam tiks pienācīgi palīdzēts, un depresiju. Tāpēc sabiedrība, izprotot to, sāk lēnām sacelties, un onkoloģisko slimnieku biedrības, kas norādīja uz šo problēmu, gada sākumā vērsās Saeimā, un pēc Irinas Janumas, krūts vēža slimnieku atbalsta biedrības priekšsēdētājas, ierosinājuma mēs - 27 šīs Saeimas deputāti - izveidojām deputātu grupu onkoloģisko slimnieku atbalstam. Kopīgiem spēkiem, smagi diskutējot ar Veselības ministriju (iepriekšējā ministra laikā tas neizdevās), ministres Andas Čakšas vadībā onkoloģija tika pasludināta par prioritāti. Mēs nonācām pie tā, ka šo otrdien Sabiedrības veselības apakškomisijas sēdē ministrija apliecināja, ka jā - tā būtu gatava šādu programmu izstrādāt un veikt reformas onkoloģisko slimnieku izmeklēšanas un ārstēšanas jomā, patiesi iedzīvinot tā saukto zaļo koridoru: 10 dienu laikā cilvēks, par kuru ir aizdomas, ka viņam ir onkoloģiska saslimšana, tiktu izmeklēts bez sūtīšanas pie speciālistiem, bez stāvēšanas rindās, vienkārši ar ģimenes ārsta nosūtījumu, un pēc tam sekotu tālāka ārstēšana, ja diagnoze par onkoloģisko saslimšanu apstiprinātos. Aicinu atbalstīt šo Latvijas pilsoņu iesniegumu. Tas sakrīt ar mūsu, deputātu, nostāju un izpratni par šo problēmu, tas sakrīt arī ar Veselības ministrijas deklarēto gatavību izstrādāt šādu programmu. Šādas summas novirzīšana onkoloģijai (papildus klāt pie 34 miljoniem, kas tāpat tur ir paredzēti), protams, izkustinātu šo problēmu no nāves punkta, dotu cerības mūsu cilvēkiem, ka onkoloģisko slimību ārstēšana tiešām nebūs nekāda bezizeja, traģēdija, dotu cerības uz dzīves paildzināšanu un tās kvalitātes uzlabošanu.".
