Lai arī skaitliski esam maza valsts, sportā nereti mēs liekam nodrebēt pat vislielākajām zemeslodes nācijām, kad tās ierauga Latvijas sportistu vārdus dalībnieku sarakstā. Mūsu sportisti izcīna uzvaras no janvāra līdz decembrim, nesoties lejā pa ledus trasēm visā pasaulē, ierādot vietu pretiniekiem tepat “Arēnā Rīga”, gūstot panākumus Amazones džungļos un otrpus Ķīnas mūrim, kopīgi ceļot saliedētību, skrienot maratonu un liekot ikvienam ņujorkietim meklēt kartē, kur atrodas Latvija. Latvijā ir ieviestas dažāda veida akcijas. Septembrī ir Olimpiskā diena, veiksmīgi strādā iniciatīva “Sporto visa klase”, notiek arī Eiropas Savienības iniciēta Sporta nedēļa (pagājušajā gadā tā bija septembra otrā nedēļa - no 7. līdz 13.septembrim, šogad tā būs no 17. līdz 23.septembrim, un tiek spriests par šīs Sporta nedēļas pagarināšanu vai ieviešanu arī citā gadalaikā, lai arī sporta veidi, kuriem citi laika apstākļi ir piemērotāki, varētu piedalīties). Tātad, kā jau teicu, Latvijā sports ir asinīs. Sporta aktivitātes un pasākumi notiek katru dienu un nedēļu, aptverot visplašāko sporta veidu spektru. Līdz ar to man kā sportistam katra diena ir kā sporta diena un katra nedēļa ir kā sporta nedēļa.
