Valsts prezidenta ievēlēšana ir viens no Latvijas parlamenta atbildīgākajiem uzdevumiem mūsu valsts nākotnes vārdā. Koalīcijas partijas ir izvirzījušas divus cienījamus Valsts prezidenta amata kandidātus - Raimondu Vējoni un Egilu Levitu. Un VIENOTĪBAS frakcija balsos par viņiem. Neslēpjoties un nespēlējot spēlītes, savu nostāju paužot godīgi un atklāti. Mēs esam nemainīgi iestājušies par atklātu Valsts prezidenta ievēlēšanu, tāpēc es gribu cerēt, ka aizklāto balsojumu neviens neizmantos, lai teiktu vienu, bet rīkotos citādi. Kolēģi, es vēlos runāt par to, ko VIENOTĪBA sagaida no nākamā Valsts prezidenta. Šodien mēs ievēlam Valsts prezidentu - prezidentu, kuram nākamajā darba cēlienā mūsu valsts un tautas intereses jātur augstāk par visu - atbildīgi, pārdomāti, savu darbību balstot uz trim nozīmīgiem valsts un sabiedrības drošības pīlāriem - valsts ārējās un iekšējās drošības stiprināšanu, ekonomiskās un finanšu drošības veicināšanu un sociāli iekļaujošas politikas īstenošanu. No nākamā Valsts prezidenta mēs sagaidām ne vien skaistus vārdus, bet arī stingru nostāju un izlēmību. Šajā ģeopolitiski trauksmainajā laikā Valsts prezidentam kā Nacionālo bruņoto spēku virspavēlniekam nelokāmi un stingri jāpastāv uz Latvijas aizsardzības budžeta kāpināšanu līdz 2 procentiem no iekšzemes kopprodukta, nepieļaujot nekādas atkāpes no apņemšanās un saistībām, ko mūsu valsts uzņēmusies kā līdzvērtīga NATO dalībvalsts. Nozīmīgs uzdevums ir Latvijas armijas skaitliskā sastāva palielināšana un turpmāka valsts militārās infrastruktūras attīstīšana, neaizmirstot arī par Zemessardzes stiprināšanu, kas ir ne vien mūsu valsts brīvprātīgo aizsargu kalve, Nacionālo bruņoto spēku sastāvdaļa un regulāro spēku rezerve, bet arī nozīmīgs resurss patriotisma un valstiskās piederības sajūtas spēcināšanai. Pēdējā gada laikā starptautiskā drošības vide Baltijas jūras reģionā ir pieredzējusi kardinālas pārmaiņas. Latvija jau ilgāku laiku dzīvo informatīvā kara apstākļos, kur notiek cīņa par Latvijas iedzīvotāju prātiem un ticību savas valsts nākotnei, tādēļ mūsu valsts ārējā drošība ir cieši saistīta ar to, cik droši un stabili mēs jūtamies iekšpolitiski. Vēl 21.gadsimta fenomena - hibrīdkara - apstākļos spējam savu sabiedrību pasargāt no tai naidīgu spēku īstenotajiem smadzeņu skalošanas mēģinājumiem. Vai spējam šai milzu mašinērijai pretī likt kvalitatīvu, objektīvu, visiem pieejamu un saprotamu informāciju? Tikai stiprinot mūsu iekšējās aizsargspējas, mūsu mediju vidi un informācijas telpu, mēs spēsim saglabāt valsts iekšējo stabilitāti un mazināt ārvalstu inspirētus provokāciju riskus. Mēs nedrīkstam aizmirst arī par tiem dienestiem, kas ik dienas nepagurstoši gādā par mūsu drošību, - mūsu glābējiem, policistiem un robežsargiem. Šo dienestu spēju un motivācijas celšanai joprojām jābūt politiskās dienaskārtības prioritāram uzdevumam, un Valsts prezidentam jābūt Saeimas un valdības ciešam sabiedrotajam šo jautājumu risināšanā. Ņemot vērā aizvadīto gadu rūgto krīzes pieredzi, Valsts prezidentam ir neatsverama loma arī valsts finanšu un ekonomikas stabilitātes nodrošināšanā un sabiedrības saliedētības veicināšanā. Viens no pamatelementiem, kas veicina sabiedrības kopības un saliedētības sajūtu, ir iekļaujoša sociālā politika. Tās uzdevums ir mazināt sociālo un ienākumu nevienlīdzību sabiedrībā, stiprināt sociālo drošību un stabilitāti, lai ikviens mūsu valstī justos novērtēts. Vienlaikus mums jāatceras, ka jautājumos, kas skar valsts budžetu, mums arvien jārīkojas īpaši atbildīgi un tālredzīgi. Populistiski lozungi sociālo jautājumu risināšanā nedrīkst tikt bezatbildīgi izmantoti kā aizsegs savtīgām politiskajām interesēm. Tādēļ situācijās, kad politiskā sāncensība Saeimā vai valdībā draud ar populistiskiem un valsts izaugsmei bīstamiem lēmumiem, Valsts prezidentam ir pienākums laikus šos riskus novērst, līdzsvarojot politiķu ambīcijas. Kolēģi! Šodien mēs ievēlam Valsts prezidentu - prezidentu, kurš izprot savu atbildību un spēj uzrunāt ikvienu mūsu valsts iedzīvotāju neatkarīgi no viņa dzīvesvietas, izglītības vai ienākumu līmeņa, sarunvalodas ģimenē vai politiskās pārliecības. Mūsu valstij ir svarīgs ikviens tās iedzīvotājs, un prezidenta uzdevums ir sabiedrību vienot, nevis šķelt. Tieši tādēļ prezidentam ir jāspēj pie sava galda aicināt un vienlīdz atbildīgi uzrunāt visus Saeimā pārstāvētos politiskos spēkus, jo aiz katra no tiem stāv tā vēlētāji - mūsu valsts pilsoņi. Tikai veidojot dialogu un kopīgi strādājot katra Latvijas iedzīvotāja labklājībai, mēs varam tikt gan uzklausīti, gan uzrunāti, justies piederīgi savai valstij un vajadzīgi un kopīgi stiprināt tās vērtības, ko mūsu priekšteči ir likuši par pamatu, 1918.gadā dibinot mūsu Latvijas valsti. Mēs vēlamies Valsts prezidenta amatā redzēt valstsvīru ne vien vārdos, bet arī darbos. Kolēģi!
