Tautsaimniecības, agrārās, vides un reģionālās politikas komisija ir izskatījusi likumprojektu “Grozījumi Ģenētiski modificēto organismu aprites likumā”. Likumprojekts paredz iespēju, ka Ministru kabineta līmenī var gan ierobežot, gan aizliegt konkrētu ģenētiski modificēto organismu audzēšanu Latvijā, un šāda kārtība tiek ieviesta, jo 2015.gada 11.martā Eiropas Parlaments un Padome pieņēma direktīvu 2015/412, kas paredz dalībvalstīm šādu iespēju. Direktīva nosaka pārejas periodu līdz 2015.gada 3.oktobrim, kura laikā mēs varam aizliegt tās šķirnes, kam jau ir izsniegta atļauja Eiropas Savienības līmenī, piemēram, kukurūzai MON810, un iesniegt arī septiņu pieteikumu aizliegumus, kas pašlaik stāv rindā uz atļauju. Ņemot vērā šo īso pārejas periodu un to, ka šajā laikā ir jāveic grozījumi atbilstošajos Ministru kabineta noteikumos un jāpieprasa konkrētu ĢMO šķirņu aizliegšana, komisija ierosina atzīt likumprojektu par steidzamu.".
