Latvijas Reģionu apvienība šodien Saeimas sēdē virzīja grozījumus likumā “Par svētku, atceres un atzīmējamām dienām”, 2.pantā paredzot 7.novembri noteikt par Robežsargu dienu un 5.decembri – par Policijas darbinieku dienu. Jāuzsver, ka pašlaik 17.maijs ir Ugunsdzēsēju un glābēju diena, tādēļ tiek godināti Iekšlietu ministrijas padotībā esošās iestādes – Valsts ugunsdzēsības un glābšanas dienesta –darbinieki, bet citi Iekšlietu ministrijas padotībā esošie darbinieki – Valsts policijas un Valsts robežsardzes darbinieki – netiek godināti. Kā arī netiek godināti pašvaldību policijas un ostu policijas darbinieki. 1918.gada 18.novembrī pēc Latvijas valsts nodibināšanas kā pašu pirmo valsts varas nesēju sāka veidot tieši policiju, tādējādi parādot iekšējās drošības nodrošināšanas neapšaubāmi lielo nozīmi valstī. 1918.gada 5.decembrī Tautas padome pieņēma noteikumus “Pagaidu noteikumi par iekšējās apsardzes organizēšanu”, kas noteica policijas izveidi, tās administratīvās varas funkcijas, pienākumus, kā arī reglamentēja citus ar policijas izveidi saistītus jautājumus. Kopš minētā normatīvā akta pieņemšanas tika uzsākts darbs pie policijas veidošanas, un 5.decembris tiek uzskatīts par policijas dibināšanas gadadienu. 1918.gada 18.novembrī, proklamējot Latvijas Republikas neatkarību, Tautas padome deklaratīvi noteica arī jaunizveidotās valsts pagaidu robežu. Pēc Brīvības cīņām sākās robežas iezīmēšana dabā un starpvalstu dokumentu noformēšana. Lai pasargātu Latvijas Republikas valsts robežu, 1919.gada 7.novembrī Latvijas armijas virspavēlnieks Jānis Balodis izdeva pavēli izveidot robežsargu priekšnieka posteni un formēt robežsargu vienības. 1919.gada 15.novembrī pirmie robežsargi uzsāka Latvijas Republikas valsts robežas aizsardzību. Pēc šodienas balsojuma par šiem grozījumiem ir skumji jāatzīst, ka 43 maniem kolēģiem nav konkrēta viedokļa šajos jautājumos, un netika izvērtēts nedz šo profesiju vēsturiskais devums, nedz arī viņu nozīme pašreiz mūsu valstī. Gribu piebilst, ka ļoti svarīgi, ka šī ierosme nāk tieši no pašas nozares pārstāvju puses – Latvijas Iekšlietu darbinieku arodbiedrības personā. Paldies.".
