Tāpēc minētās valstis nevar kalpot par modeli, jo mums lustrācija attiecībā uz čekistiem un lieliniekiem notika sadarbībā ar Totalitārisma seku dokumentēšanas centru, mums politiskā kultūra atšķīrās. Lai rastu atbildes kolaborantu nodarījumiem Latvijā, pērn valdība un Saeima deva zaļo gaismu zinātnes darbam, vienlaicīgi saglabājot lustrācijas politikas stūrakmeņus. Pētniecībā iesaistījās starptautiski atzīti zinātnieki, tādi kā vēsturnieks Kārlis Kangeris, konstitucionālo tiesību juriste Kristīne Jarinovska, diplomāts Bonifācijs Daukšts, filozofe Solveiga Krūmiņa-Koņkova, sociologs Mārtiņš Kaprāns, arhivārs Ainārs Bambals un citi augstas raudzes speciālisti.
