Mēs esam bieži pārsteigušies... ar pārcentību gribam iestādes nosaukumā ielikt visas tās darbības, kas vien šajā iestādē notiek. Vai vienmēr tas attaisnojas un vai tas ir pareizi? Mēs... Un noteikti būtu arī jāpadomā, vai varētu to nosaukt šādi: “Latvijas Nacionālā opera un balets”. Būtu tomēr pareizi latviski teikt “Operas un baleta teātris”, jo, vadoties pēc latviešu valodas gramatikas īpatnībām, operā var dejot, bet baletā nevar dziedāt, jo vārds “balets” apzīmē tikai darbību. Mēs taču nevaram par teātri teikt “Nacionālā drāma”, mēs sakām “Nacionālais drāmas teātris” (No zāles: “Latvijas Nacionālās apvienības opera!”) vai “Drāmas teātris”. Mēs nevaram par teātri teikt “Nacionālā drāma un komēdija”. Mēs taču nepārdēvēsim šo teātri tādā veidā! Bet par to, protams, ir jāpadomā. Tātad varbūt tikai “teātris”. Ir viena nelaime: ja mēs sakām “Nacionālais operas un baleta teātris”, tad tas asociējas ar to, ko komunisti visvairāk ienīda. Proti, komunisti ienīda jebkuru šādu nosaukumu un, nodibinoties padomju varai, momentāni pārdēvēja Latvijas Nacionālo operu par LPSR Operas un baleta teātri. Tā varbūt nebūtu visai patīkama asociācija. Otra lieta, ka ar šo nosaukumu ir saistītas šīs vēsturiskās tradīcijas. Ir muzeji, kas saistīti ne tikai ar Latviju, bet arī starptautiski... Savulaik ir sadrukātas afišas, avīžu recenzijas, bukleti... Un es gribētu atgādināt, ka savulaik Latvijas Nacionālajā operā diriģēja tādi slaveni diriģenti kā Emīls Kupers (no 1926. līdz 1929.gadam), kurš pēc kara bija Metropolitēna operas diriģents, un Leo Blehs, kurš bija Stokholmas Karaliskās operas un pēc kara - Berlīnes simfoniskā orķestra diriģents. 1934.gadā Latvijas Nacionālā opera ar Jāzepa Mediņa baletu “Mīlas uzvara” ar panākumiem uzstājās nevis “Stokholmas Karaliskajā operā un baletā”, bet Stokholmas Karaliskajā operā. Bet, ja nu mums ir tā vēlme visu pārdēvēt, tad varbūt es nobeigšu ar to, ka mēs varētu pārsaukt, kā jau es teicu, Drāmas teātri par Nacionālo drāmu un komēdiju. Un arī Brīvības pieminekli varētu pārsaukt par Brīvības, demokrātijas un tolerances pieminekli. Ja jau mainām, tad mainām visu! Paldies.".
