Viens no būtiskākajiem šīsdienas sēdes jautājumiem bija Nacionālās apvienības ierosinājums veikt izmaiņas Satversmē, kuras paredzētu atklātas Valsts prezidenta vēlēšanas. Uzskatām, ka vēlētājiem ir tiesības zināt savu pārstāvju balsojumus tik svarīgos jautājumos un deputātiem ir pienākums tos atklāti pamatot. Vēlamies lauzt oligarhu laikos ieviesto praksi, ka amatpersonas tika iebalsotas slepeni un apšaubāmas motivācijas un darījumu rezultātā. Diemžēl Nacionālās apvienības centienus atbalstīja mazākums. Nacionālā apvienība izsaka nožēlu, ka šie grozījumi tika noraidīti, nevis skaidri paužot nostāju ar “pret” balsīm, bet nesavācot kvorumu, – vārdu sakot, izvelkot ārā deputātu balsošanas kartītes... Man kā pirmo reizi ievēlētam deputātam šķiet, ka, strādājot ar šādām metodēm, tiek grauts Saeimas prestižs un mazināta tautas uzticība parlamentam. Tajā pašā laikā tika atbalstīts Latvijas Reģionu apvienības iesniegtais līdzīgais priekšlikums par Valsts prezidenta vēlēšanu atklātību, kas diemžēl pats par sevi neko Valsts prezidenta ievēlēšanas kārtībā nemaina, jo nepieciešami arī norādītie Satversmes grozījumi. Iepriekšējo Latvijas Reģionu apvienības piedāvājumu neatbalstījām, jo tas paredzēja Valsts prezidenta amatam izvirzīt kandidātus jau ar esošu augstākās kategorijas pielaidi valsts noslēpumam, faktiski sašaurinot iespējamo Valsts prezidenta amata kandidātu loku; tas nebija loģiski un pamatoti. Nacionālā apvienība ir pārliecināta, ka Valsts prezidents jāievēl “caurspīdīgi” – atklātā procesā. Pirmkārt, ikvienam vēlētājam ir tiesības zināt, kā Saeimas deputāti ir balsojuši, lai viņi nestu atbildību par savu pieņemto lēmumu un rīcību. Otrkārt, jāuzsver, ka šobrīd Valsts prezidents ir valstī vienīgā augstā amatpersona, kas tiek ievēlēta aizklātā balsojumā. Bet pārliecinošu argumentu, kāpēc šāda kārtība saglabāta, nav. Jau arī iepriekšējie runātāji pieminēja, ka tika izskatīts jautājums par mikrouzņēmumu nodokli. Arī Nacionālā apvienība atbalstīja šī likumprojekta tālāku virzību Saeimā. Bet vēlētos informēt, ka vakar Saeimas Ārlietu komisijā tika skatīti Nacionālās apvienības deputātu, tas ir, manis, Riharda Kola un Jāņa Dombravas, iesniegtie priekšlikumi ārpolitikas prioritārajiem darbiem. Esam vērsuši uzmanību uz vairākiem jautājumiem, kas skar Latvijas drošību, ekonomiku un vēstures skaidrojumu starptautiski. Tagad es vēlētos par dažiem no tiem arī bilst plašāk. Runājot par drošību, jāteic, ka nenoliedzami viens no svarīgākajiem Eiropas uzdevumiem ir Eiropas Savienības drošības stratēģijas izstrāde, ņemot vērā ģeopolitisko situāciju un pieaugošos apdraudējumu riskus. Līdzšinējā stratēģija neatbilst šodienas drošības situācijai. Šajā procesā Latvijai ir būtiski izstrādāt vadlīnijas un savus priekšlikumus, vadoties pēc Latvijas nacionālajām pozīcijām attiecībā uz Eiropas Savienības drošības un ārlietu prioritātēm, un iesniegt arī atbildīgajām Eiropas Savienības institūcijām. Mums ir nepieciešams aktīvi pārstāvēt Latvijas intereses Eiropas Savienības institūcijās, kuras atbild arī plašākā jomā par drošību un aizsardzību. Parlamentārajā līmenī ir jāuzsāk aktīva un cieša sadarbība ar Baltijas un Melnās jūras reģiona valstīm gan drošības, gan ekonomiskās sadarbības jomā. Laikā, kad Eiropas Savienības uzdevums ir stiprināt ārējo robežu visos iespējamos veidos, starpvalstu sadarbība ir izšķiroša. Ārlietu komisijas darbā jāaktualizē arī jautājums, kā pasaulei skaidrot totalitāros režīmus un to pastrādātos noziegumus. Viens no priekšlikumiem ir izveidot vienotu informatīvo e-platformu, kur visiem Eiropas Savienības pilsoņiem būtu pieejama pārskatāma un izglītojoša informācija par visiem totalitārajiem režīmiem Eiropā un to pastrādātajiem noziegumiem. Nobeigumā gribu vērst uzmanību arī uz Nacionālās apvienības vadītās Cilvēktiesību un sabiedrisko lietu komisijas iniciatīvu lūgt Lielbritānijas parlamentam iesaistīties Latvijas pilsones bērna atgūšanā. Bērns ir ticis izņemts no ģimenes, neiedziļinoties lietas apstākļos un pieņemot bargāko no sodiem – liegt mātei tiesības uz bērnu. Nacionālā apvienība ir pārliecināta, ka šāda rakstura gadījumos mūsu pienākums ir aizstāvēt ikviena Latvijas pilsoņa tiesības neatkarīgi no viņa ģeogrāfiskās atrašanās vietas.".
