Tas man bija pārsteigums, jo es uz Rail Baltica projektu skatos ne tikai kā uz ekonomisku projektu, kurā mēs, esot Eiropas Savienības dalībvalsts, varēsim izmantot arī Eiropas Savienības līdzekļus, lai attīstītu savu infrastruktūru. Es uz Rail Baltica pirmām kārtām skatos kā uz ģeopolitisku ieguvumu, kas vēl vairāk nostiprinās to, ka mēs esam Eiropas Savienības valsts un ka ar šo vilcienu neiebrauks te sveši tanki vai sveši vagoni neievedīs kādus svešus cilvēkus. Man ir bail, ka mēs paši kaut kādā veidā ar savām darbībām, ar savām runām paši varam pazaudēt savu valsti. Man ir bail no tā, ka mēs paliktu vieni. Man ir bail no tā, ka kaut kādā situācijā mēs tā kā pieteiktu karu Krievijai un pieprasītu atsaukt komisāri Mogerīni, un tad... mēs tajā brīdī varbūt paliktu vieni, kaut ko nodemonstrētu. Mēs esam likumdevēji, un mums ir attiecīgas tiesības, mēs varam ietekmēt ārpolitiku. Mums tauta ir iedevusi varu. Mums tauta ir iedevusi pilnvaras, to skaitā arī pilnvaras realizēt tādu ārpolitiku, kas ir pieņemama sabiedrības vairākumam, realizēt tādu ārpolitiku, kas mums dod arī ekonomiskus ieguvumus un kas nodrošina to, ka mēs katrs esam pārliecināts par savu drošību un par savu bērnu drošību un rītdienu.
