Šī jubileja varētu kļūt par lielisku iemeslu tam, lai paveiktu to, kas netika izdarīts pēc aukstā kara beigām, - rīkotu otro Helsinku miera konferenci, lai tā notiktu Rīgā, un izrevidētu desmit pazīstamos starptautiskās politikas principus, kas izslēgtu konfliktu rašanos Eiropā. Sen ir atmesti nodomi pozicionēt Latviju Eiropā kā tiltu starp Rietumiem un Austrumiem, un to var saprast, jo tilts nepieder ne vienam, ne otram krastam. Tilts pastāv pats par sevi un ir tiešām neatkarīgs un suverēns. Tomēr bez tilta nevar dzīvot neviens krasts, ne arī kāds cits, jo tieši tilts nodrošina abu krastu savstarpējo saskarsmi, tāpēc pārvaldīt tiltu ir gan viena, gan otra krasta mērķis. Tomēr prezidentūra Eiropas Savienības Padomē rada Latvijai lieliskas iespējas ietekmēt notikumus Eiropā un kļūt par tiltu, nemaz nevājinot mūsu saistību izpildi pret NATO. Jūsu arsenālā, Rinkēviča kungs, tagad ir zelta lode. Arī no jums personīgi un no valsts sekretāra Pildegoviča kunga ir atkarīgs, kā rīkosies Latvija, - prātīgi izmantos tai vēsturē sniegtās unikālās iespējas pacelt mūsu valsts autoritāti vai atražos jau pieļautās svešās kļūdas.
