Un ļoti labi zināms, ka pamatlikuma grozījumi, kuri paredz grozīt Valsts prezidenta ievēlēšanas kārtību, jau nodoti izskatīšanai Saeimas komisijām, jo ļoti daudzi Latvijas iedzīvotāji paši vēlas lemt, kas vadīs mūsu valsti. Savukārt Latvijas Reģionu apvienības iesniegtais likumprojekts, neskatoties uz atsevišķu autoru dedzīgajiem lojalitātes apliecinājumiem idejai par tautas vēlētu Valsts prezidentu, paredzēja izteikt Satversmes 36.pantu šādā redakcijā: “Valsts prezidentu ievēlē, atklāti balsojot, ar ne mazāk kā 51 Saeimas locekļa balsu vairākumu.” Proti, likumprojekta autori, mūsuprāt, pēkšņi aicināja atstāt šo privilēģiju parlamenta rokās. Neapmierinātība ar partijām aug augumā, un daudzi cilvēki uzskata, ka vienīgā cerība ir būtiskas izmaiņas valsts pārvaldē. Tādēļ Latvijas Valsts prezidents ir jāievēl tautai. Latvijas tauta nemaz nav nezinošāka par 100 tautas ievēlētajiem priekšstāvjiem, un tautai ir tiesības lemt, kas vadīs mūsu valsti. Tāpēc ir absolūti nepareizi tagad atvērt diskusiju par to, vai Valsts prezidents jāvēl, atklāti balsojot Saeimā.
